We are delighted to welcome, Professor Sharmistha Saha to the IIT Bombay family. She joined the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of IITB last year.
She completed her masters in Arts and Aesthetics from the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in 2008.She the completed her M.Phil degree in Theater and Performance from School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2010.She further went on to pursue her PhD Theaterwissenschft from International Research Training Group ‘Interart’, Dahlem Research School, Freie Universität, Berlin, Germany and completed it in 2014.She has done a post doctorate degree from International Research Training Group ‘Interart’, Dahlem Research School, Freie Universität, Berlin, Germany in 2015.
Her PhD was on Coagulating communities: formation of a national body through cultural practice in colonial India.and her Post Doctoral dissertation was on Coagulating communities: formation of a national body through cultural practice in colonial India. She has worked at the Odin Teatret in Denmark and also assisted well-known theatre directors. She was the Program Manager of Strategic Management in the Art of Theatre, India's first theatre and performance management course.
Her current research interests are Performance Studies, Aesthetics and Politics, Critical Theory, Theatre History.
She has a number of certificates to her name as well, Certificate in Filmmaking from Prague Film School, Prague, Czech Republic in 2012.Another one in Film Appreciation from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in 2007. One in Stage Lighting from Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi in 2007.And one more from Universidad de Granada in Spain in 2006in Spanish Art and Literature.
Her plans at IIT Bombay is to explore the possibilities of collaboration in research of performance studies and other fields.
