Let us welcome Prof. Manish Kumar to the IITB Community. Prof. Kumar has joined the Department of Civil Engineering. Prof. Manish Kumar completed his B.Tech. from IIT Kanpur in 2008 and later completed his MS from SUNY at Buffalo in 2012. In 2015, he successfully finished his PhD from SUNY at Buffalo. Prof Kumar has also served as a Civil Engineer in Rio Tinto, Australia from 2008 to 2009.
His primary research interest includes analysis and design of structures subject to earthquakes, blast and impact loading. When asked about his future plans at IIT Bombay he says that he wish to contribute towards the vision and mission of IIT Bombay through his research and teaching.
“On the research front, I plan to upgrade laboratory infrastructure to conduct large scale seismic testing of structures. I wish to establish IIT Bombay as a leader in the research area of blast and impact resistant design of structures. I also hope to engage undergraduate students in research activities and motivate them to explore research as a career option,”
“On the teaching front, my main goal would be to increase the elements of application-based learning in the undergraduate courses. I plan to offer graduate courses that would be unique to IIT Bombay, including seismic retrofit of structures and blast resistant design of structures.” says Prof. Kumar.
