We are delighted to welcome Professor Navin Khaneja to the IIT Bombay family. He joined the department of Systems and Control Engineering this year.
Professor Navin graduated in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in the year 1994. He then completed a M.A. in Mathematics and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering at the Washington University simultaneously in the year 1996. He then compiled his Ph.d. in Applied Mathematics at the Harvard University in the year 2000.
Talking about his research interests he mentions control theory, NMR Spectroscopy, Quantum Information and Control. His specialization is in the domain of non-linear and geometric control. He has served as an Assistant, Associate and Full Professor, Harvard University from 2001-2015 and also as a Distinguished Visiting Professor, Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay from 2014-17.
When asked about his views on the development in his fields and its expected impact in the future he mentions that New and Novel architectures and systems have been proposed and used to demonstrate preliminary quantum computations. This can revolutionize computing. They all involve controlling quantum mechanical systems, which happens to be one of his specializations.Speakingon his future plans he says that he wants to work on further development and strengthening system and control program and to introduce new courses which teach control of quantum mechanical phenomenon.
He plans to engage students through project works. He mentions his interests as jogging, playing badminton and listening to music.
