University of Stuttgart and IIT Bombay


IIT Bombay extended their Memorandum of understanding with University of Stuttgart on June 26th, 2018.  In order to promote cooperation the two institutions agree to encourage direct contact and mutually beneficial cooperation between their respective faculty, research institutes, departments and administrative staff.


The areas of collaboration were and remain through :

- Visit and exchange by faculty members and research scholars

- Joint research activities and joint supervision of research work

- Joint conference and symposia on subjects of mutual interest.

- Exchange of information including, but not limited, research publications of faculty members.

The agreement which expired on February 10, 2016 was renewed on 26th June 2018. The new agreement stands for 5 years as did the previous one. The memorandum remains the same. The collaboration would be looked over by the Director, IIT Bombay or delegates and the Rector of University of Stuttgart. The MoU is a non binding expression of the current intentions of the both the institutes.

The University of Stuttgart is a university located in Stuttgart, Germany. It was founded in 1829 and is organized into 10 faculties.

It is one of the oldest technical universities in Germany (TU9) with highly ranked programs in civil, mechanical, industrial and electrical engineering.

The University of Stuttgart is especially known for its reputation in the fields of advanced automotive engineering, efficient industrial and automated manufacturing, process engineering, aerospace engineering and activity-based costing. Probably the most famous graduate student from University of Stuttgart was Gottlieb Daimler, the inventor of the automobile.

Universität Stuttgart is consistently ranked among the world's top universities in various international ranking surveys such as the Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Times Higher Education Supplement which ranks over 1000 universities worldwide. As of 2017, University of Stuttgart is ranked 79th in the world in the field of Engineering & Technology according to QS World University Rankings. University of Stuttgart is one of the best universities in the fields of mechanical, aeronautical, and manufacturing engineering (42nd worldwide and 3rd best in Germany) and has been ranked several times as one of the best engineering universities in Germany.
