56th Convocation Day IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay organized its 56th convocation ceremony on 11th August 2018 at the Convocation Hall of the institute, conferring a total of 2621 degrees in graduate and undergraduate level courses. The occasion was graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi as the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri CH. Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra, and Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, were invited as Guest of Honours. The Hon’ble Prime Minister delivered the convocation Address and also unveiled the plaque for new building of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering and Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering. The Hon’ble Prime Minister also announced a financial grant of 1000 crore rupees to the institute for infrastructure development and acknowledged its role in the the progress of IT sector in India. Further, three students were presented with gold medals for their exemplary performance, and 36 research scholars were selected for the ‘Award of Excellence in PhD Thesis’. The Convocation ceremony marked the conclusion of the academic stay of graduating students and hence was an event filled with mixed emotions.
