The New Climbing Wall of IITB

On 5th of May, IIT Bombay Sports announced the unveiling of “Freedom The Wall” - a world-class climbing facility set up in the campus.

On 5th May also known as World Athletics Day, IIT Bombay Sports announced the unveiling of “Freedom The Wall” - a world-class climbing facility set up by IIT Bombay in collaboration with Girivihar Club. It has been opened for all campus residents starting from the evening of 7th May and is situated near the Indoor Badminton Complex.

The inauguration function on 7th May was attended not only by the dignitaries from IIT Bombay, most notably the previous Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Soumyo Mukherji, and Girivihar Club but also the fourteen times national climbing champion, and the only man to have summited the 5850m Mount Zambala in Siachen Glacier – Mr. Praveen C. M., as a special guest.

IIT Bombay Sports also conducted sessions with experienced climbers to teach attendees all the basics of indoor-climbing like wall etiquette, climbing technique, posture, arm positioning, hold types and so on. With the aim of developing in students an interest as well as skill in more new and different sports, “Freedom The Wall” is bound to be a huge success.
