On 19 October, Abhyuday, IIT Bombay in collaboration with Tata Hospital and Mohan Foundation organized a Blood and Organ Donation Registration Camp in the Convocation Foyer from 9:30 am to 5 pm. The camp was organized in the supervision of a team of reputed doctors from Tata Hospital. Organ Donation registration was conducted in association with Mohan Foundation.
Blood and Organ Donation today are becoming increasingly popular as every blood donor saves three lives, just by donating a small quantity of their blood. Blood donors are also 33 percent less likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases and 88 percent less likely to suffer from a heart attack. Additionally, the removal of some blood is beneficial in reducing the risk of cancer and liver ailments caused by the iron overload in the body.
The event saw massive participation not just from students, but also from faculty members, staff and other residents of the campus, to the extent that the blood collected has the potential to save a whopping 1144 lives and 25 donors pledged for donating their organs. Such initiatives are truly admirable in that they also motivate people who are a bit apprehensive of the donation, to come forward and support the cause.
