The Reunion sprawled over a span of 3 days consisting of Silver Jubilee Reunions, Decennial Reunion and several other reunions of batches including 1964, 1969, 1979, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014 and finally ending with the Alumni Day on 22nd December 2019. It was a melting pot of plethora of exhilarating and invigorating activities and events. This included joint sports activities, hostel and department visits, networking events, cocktail dinners and a whole bunch of informal activities. The occasion also hosted some great professors from the times of the student years of the alumni to honour and felicitate them as well as reviving some hidden memories.
The occasion was graced with the presence of 1000+ ex-students. ‘Distinguished Service Awards’ were bestowed upon Mr. Aaloke Surie – B. Tech. Mechanical Engineering (batch of 1970), and Ms. Rekha Koita – B. Tech. Metallurgical Engineering Materials(batch of 1992) for their notable contribution to the progress of the institute. The Chapter Service Awards were conferred on three alumni - Dr. Sushil Bhatia – B. Tech.’66 Electrical Engineering (Chapter: New York), Mr. Madhusudan Reddy – M. Sc’74 Applied Geology (Chapter: Hyderabad),and Mr. Sanjay Dhall – B. Tech’85 Mechanical Engineering (Chapter: Michigan) .
A staggering total of 26.6 crore Indian rupees was pledged on the Alumni Day, with the Silver Jubilee Batch of 1994 contributing 12.14 crores and the Golden Jubilee Batch of 1969 pledging 13.07 crores towards the Legacy project. This is also one of the largest corpus donated by alumni to any alma mater in India. These funds go towards a number of endeavors grand and small in the service of the Institute and the current students. A number of legacy projects related to upgrading of-study facilities for students, labs as well as student scholarships are funded through this initiative. Alumni have expressed a desire that the money should be used well and feel that students in India deserve the same kind of quality education which they were lucky to get from their Institutes.
