Greetings from IIT Bombay!
Hope you had a great start to 2019.
The beginning of the new spring semester in January saw students returning back to the campus with joy and excitement. On January 26, 2019, IIT Bombay proudly celebrated the nation’s 70th Republic Day. The event included a ceremonial parade followed by a series of entertainment programmes at the Institute Gymkhana Grounds.
We are proud to inform you that IIT Bombay adorns the 27th position among nearly 450 universities from 43 countries across 4 continents according to the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies rankings.
It brings me immense joy in inviting you to this spring's first ‘Coming Full Circle’ event conducted by the Student Alumni Relations Cell (SARC) with our Distinguished Alumnus, Bharat Desai in the evening of February 7, 2019.

The Institute celebrated the Golden Jubilee reunion of the 1969 batch on January 19-20, 2019. Several alumni from all over the globe returned to their alma mater and revealed in two days of reminiscing.
The Institute also played host to an array of TEDx talks of acclaimed experts who spoke on themes revolving around Science for the People on January 19-20, 2019. The retinue of speakers comprised of academia from IIT Bombay like Prof. Milind Sohoni, Prof. N. B. Ballal, and others like Dr. Sheetal Kale, Mr. Tejas Kotwal, Ms. Chandni Rajendran and Ms. Suhani Mohan. The talks dealt with myriad issues like traditional practices in contemporary research, innovating affordability and the role and relevance of public institutions in making Science useful to all.
The last month witnessed several intellectually and physically stimulating lectures, which were based on a range of topics like “Yoga: The Science and the Biomedical Research Evidence” by Prof. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa from Harvard Medical School and “Yoga Sutra and World Peace: Four Decades of Research” by Dr. Anil Maheshwari on 7th and 8th January, respectively.
The Institute continues to attract outstanding talent as new faculty members. We are pleased to bring a short introduction of Prof. Amber Jain in the article below.
The generous contributions received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute help in making an important difference in our endeavor to pursue global excellence. The contributions towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute. We invite you to contribute to the Institute’s betterment to the best of your ability.
