IIT Bombay Sports Council organised its first ever, three day sports festival, ‘Aavhan’ from 24th to 26th March 2017. The fest was a huge success with a footfall of about 3000 talented sportspersons participating from several parts of the nation like NIT Surat, IIT Goa, IIT Dharwad, PDPU Ahmedabad and around the city like VJTI, COEP, RJ College, etc.
A total of 13 sport tournaments were organised which included Badminton, Kho- Kho, Squash, and Water polo.
The major attraction of the event was the cricket finals between the DY Patil team and IIT Bombay which displayed glorious enthusiasm from both parties, with IIT Bombay ultimately winning the cricket tournament and captain Gaurav Zakhmi being announced as the Man of the Series. IITB players consistently put up a great show of their skills and strength as they sweated it out against competing teams. Apart from the great performance in cricket, the IITB's girls team bagged a silver in Kho-Kho.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation from our alumni as well, who were invited to participate and once again given a chance to represent IIT. This event proved to be an excellent platform for them to interact with their juniors. The overwhelming response from the alumni community provoked the council members to introduce yet another series of tournaments designed especially for alumni community.
Aavhan at its very first edition raised its expectation bar to a new level. After such a spectacular participation, we hope that this zeal continues to remain in the hearts of the participants.
