International Day of Yoga or commonly referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. June 21st is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world. From the perspective of yoga, the summer solstice marks the transition to Dakshinayana.
In this regard, a series of various workshops, lectures and symposiums were organized by the Wellness Club of IIT Bombay – Yogastha in the month of June. There was a series of events with regard to the celebration of 5th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, 2018, organised in the campus.
The chief guests were Ms. Anu Aggarwal, founder and director of Anu Aggarwal Foundation, and Mr. Tushar Pradhan, CIO, HSBC. The Director, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri and the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. T. Kundu also graced the occasion.
Various competitions like quiz competition on yoga, slogan writing, article writing, poster making, yogathon (108 surya namaskar challenge) were organized during the event. Yogathon Challenge Winners got goodies & e- certificate from IIT Bombay Gymkhana Sports.
Pranayam workshop saw huge participation from IITB community. Yogastha also organized a workshop on Iyengar Yoga. The session focused on body alignment in the posture with breath control. The session was taken by experienced instructor Mr. Birjoo Mehta.
Meditation is a wonderful way to introspect and to contemplate the present. In the spirit of the International Day of Yoga, 2019, Yogastha brought a talk and workshop on Heartfulness Meditation at FC Kohli Auditorium, IIT Bombay by Ms. Sonali Godbole, Mr. Tushar Pradhan and Dr. Lalitha Dhareshwar. Flexibility & Stretching workshops were also organized.
Yogastha was overwhelmed with the exemplary response and grateful to instructors from Ambica, Yog Kutir for the very informative & interesting sessions. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from all the members of the IIT Bombay community including faculty, students, staff and their family members.
