The U7 alliance is an international partnership of university presidents from research-intensive institutions and is made up of more than 30 universities from the G7 countries- Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and the US. President and provost of U7 Alliance member University College London, Michael Arthur, said the alliance brings together universities who have a passion for sharing knowledge, finding solutions and making a positive difference to the world. The inaugural summit was held in Paris on July 9 and 10 and targeted five major global challenges: the key role of universities in a global world; climate change and cleaner energy; inequality and polarised societies; technological transformations; and community engagement and impact.
IIT Bombay is proud to be associated with U7 Alliance to fight climate change. The Director of IIT Bombay, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhari, attended the inaugural summit under the direct patronage of the French President Mr. Macron. U7+ was, for the first time, a precursor meeting to G7 meeting, which is to be held in August and Mr. Macron expressed that he wanted the universities to play an active role in shaping up the citizens of tomorrow. He interacted with 48 university presidents from 19 countries attending it. IITB was the only one from India. It ended with the French President inviting all the presidents for a dinner, followed by photo sessions.
