IIT Bombay celebrated Van Mahotsav – the annual tree plantation drive on July 13, 2019, on its campus. Van Mahotsav is a yearly forest festival or 'Mahotsav' celebrated in July, which aims to spread awareness in the minds of the people for the conservation of forests and the planting of new trees.
With an aim to maintain the lush greenery of its campus and to spread the message of conserving nature, the students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya planted 850 saplings on the hill slope at the rear side of Hostel three and four at the IIT Bombay campus.
Horticulture Section of the Estate Office, IIT Bombay, had organized the event and will take care of the saplings planted throughout the year. Prof. A.K. Suresh, the Deputy Director, spoke on the significance of trees in our lives and encouraged the student participants to build a greener environment by planting more trees. Prof. B.V.S. Vishwanadham, Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Support, encouraged the participants to develop a sense of responsibility towards the protection of planted trees.
Cultural performances by the students of Campus School and Kendriya Vidyalaya were the icing on the cake and were highly appreciated.
