The team performed spectacularly as it won all the events by a huge margin along with the Advance Manufacturing Challenge and Predictive Design & Simulation Challenge, beating all the teams across Asia Pacific region.  The team is now focused on further improving  the current design for the finals at ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) on  November 2017. Please join me in congratulating the team for its spectacular performance and wish them all the best for the competition ahead.

The Institute celebrated the National Science Day on 5th March 2017. A series of public lectures were held, and included interesting topics such as “X-Ray Crystallography: Photography at an Atomic Level”, “Building a Space Telescope” and many more were delivered by our very own faculty members from across departments. The talks were followed by a panel discussion on “Bringing together science and technology at IIT Bombay” where  Prof. R. K. Shevgaonkar, former Director of IIT Delhi and professor of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Prita Pant, department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, and Prof. Subimal Ghosh, department of Civil Engineering discussed threadbare the important issue of insufficient exposure of research work to the undergraduate students.

IIT Bombay Sports Council organised its first ever, three day sports festival, ‘Aavhan’ from 24th to 26th March 2017. It witnessed a footfall of about 3,000 talented sportspersons participating  from several parts of the nation like NIT Surat, IIT Goa, IIT Dharwad, PDPU Ahmedabad and many more. A total of 13 sport tournaments were organised, which even witnessed enthusiastic participation from our alumni. This event proved to be an excellent platform for them to engage with their juniors. The overwhelming response from the alumni community provoked the council members to introduce yet another series of tournaments designed especially for the alumni.

The Institute continues to attract outstanding talent as new faculty members. Several have joined IIT Bombay in the past. We are pleased to bring a short introduction of these new faculty members in the article below.

The generous contributions received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute helps in making an important difference in our endeavour to pursue global excellence. The contributions towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute. We invite you to contribute to the Institute’s betterment to the best of your ability.
