Greetings from IIT Bombay.

The enthusiastically awaited Mumbai rains arrived with clockwork precision, and alongside that plenty of events kept the grounds humming with action.

We feel immensely proud to inform that our Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Arun Netravali. (B.Tech Electrical Engineering, 1967) has been awarded the prestigious "Marconi Prize”, for outstanding contribution to the advancement of communications for the benefit of mankind through scientific or technological discoveries. We heartily congratulate for a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding technical and professional contributions!

We are also proud to inform you that, in the latest QS World University ranking, IIT Bombay has has jumped from its position of 219 last year to 179 this year. The increasing recognition of the achievements of our faculty and students are justly represented in the improvement of our annual ranking. Several departments have also been ranked among the best in their group.

A team from the Innovation Cell of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has won the 25th Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) that was held at Oakland, Michigan, USA. Also, another team of students from IIT Bombay stood first in the Ecosperity Young Leaders Dialogue (Ecos YLD) and won the $1000 prize money. Please join me in congratulating both the teams for their outstanding performances.

The Design & Degree Show (DDS) of Industrial Design Centre, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay was held from 9th June to 11th June 2017, was a huge success. Noted animation filmmaker and national award winner Mr. E. Suresh inaugurated the DDS. The DDS showcases the work of the graduating batch of M.Des. students of the Institute.

In other news, an exhibition “Transformation of Mumbai : From Mills to Malls” was hosted by Abhyuday. Abhyuday is the Social Body of IIT Bombay; a student run organization which works towards fostering leadership and social impact. It was an interactive,  thought provoking exhibition recounting the narrative of the 1982 Great Bombay Textile Strike and its impacts on the city culture.

The Institute continues to attract exceptional talent as new faculty members. Several have joined IIT Bombay in the past. We are pleased to bring a short introduction of these new faculty members in the article below.

The generous contribution received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute helps on making an important difference in our endeavor to pursue global excellence. The contribution towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute. We invite you to contribute to the Institute’s betterment to the best of your ability.
