Greetings from IIT Bombay.

We welcome the new batch of over 2000 students to the Institute. It heralds the beginning of a new and memorable phase in their lives. We are very pleased to inform you that IIT Bombay continues to be the most preferred choice of students, with 65 of the top 100 JEE rankers joining the Institute. This year also marks the beginning of the BS program in Economics with the admission of 26 students through JEE. We welcome all the new students and look forward to them having an enriching experience at the Institute.

I am very pleased to inform you that Distinguished Alumnus Rajiv V. Joshi, Research Scientist at IBM, has been conferred with this year’s IEEE Daniel E. Noble Award for Emerging Technologies. He has been selected for his contributions to predictive failure analytics, VLSI memory design, and technology. Please join me in congratulating Rajiv for this singular achievement and bringing glory to his alma mater.

The Convocation of the class of 2017 will be held on August 12, 2017. Distinguished Alumnus Manohar Parrikar, Chief Ministry of Goa shall be the chief guest of the function. More than 2500 degrees will be awarded during the ceremony.

We are also very pleased to inform you that Dr. Sudhir K. Mishra, Distinguished Scientist and Director General of BrahMos, DRDO, Government of India delivered a Institute Lecture entitled "India’s Achievements in Missile Technology" on July 17. A highly decorated scientist, he is also the CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace. During the talk, he discussed the development of missiles right from its inception in India during 1960’s to now when the country has developed operational Surface-to-surface Strategic Missiles Prithvi and Agni, Surface-to-Air Missile Akash, Anti-Tank Guided Missile Nag and Air Defence system successfully. 

The Institute continues to attract outstanding talent as new faculty members. Several have joined IIT Bombay in the past. We are pleased to bring a short introduction of each new faculty member in the article below.

The generous contributions received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute helps in making an important difference in our endeavour to pursue global excellence. The contributions towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute. We invite you to contribute to the Institute’s betterment to the best of your ability.
