Greetings from IIT Bombay.
The month of September was abuzz with activities on IIT campus. The students burnt midnight oil during the early part of the month when the mid-semester examinations were held. The campus also fully imbibed the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi with celebrations hosted in most hostels. The Institute celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th September, where Prof. SP Sukhatme Excellence in Teaching Awards and Dr. P K Patwardhan Technology Development Award were conferred. The chief guest on this occasion was Dr Srikumar Banerjee, Chancellor of Homi Bhabha National Institute, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.

In order to further enhance the academic collaboration between Taiwan universities and IIT Bombay, a Taiwan Education Center (TEC) has been set up on campus. The TEC was inaugurated on September 22, 2017 by Mr. Chung-Kwang Tien, the Ambassador of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India. The TEC is expected to facilitate further research collaborations involving Taiwan universities and companies with IIT Bombay. The TEC will also offer opportunities for our students to learn about Taiwan language and culture on campus.
I am also delighted to invite you to Alumination, the annual student-alumni meet, which will be held on October 7-8, 2017. A number of events involving alumni from different walks of life have been organised. Our students are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to participate in various programs and learn from the wisdom of the alumni. I look forward to a large number you participating in Alumination and acting as role models to the current students. The details of the program are available at alumination.sarc-iitb.org.
The Institute hosted a fusion rock concert, entitled Ye India Ka Time Hai, on 2nd September to celebrate 70 years of Independence and freedom and 75 years of the ‘Quit India Movement’. The performers at the concert were Manish J. Tipu's Neo Gharana, a fusion rock band of the Gangs of Wasseypur and Qissa fame. The truly enthralling performance witnessed huge participation from the campus community. The program was organised by the Institute Cultural Council in association with National Film Development Corporation. On 15th September, a Grand Carnatic Classical Vocal Recital was also organized in memory of our retired professors who are not with us anymore. The main artist for the night was Sri Sriram Sastry, a highly regarded up-and-coming vocalist trained in the Rudrapatnam School of Carnatic tradition by the elder of the celebrated Rudrapatnam brothers, Vidwan RN Thyagarajan.
