Greetings from IIT Bombay!
We welcome the new Postgraduate and Undergraduate students in the Institute alongside with the most awaited Mumbai rains. It marks the beginning of a new and memorable phase in their lives and revives our campus. We are very pleased to inform you that IIT Bombay still holds the title of being the most preferred choice, with 67 of the top 100 JEE rankers joining the Institute. We heartily congratulate all the new students and wish them an enriching and enlightening experience at the Institute.
I take immense pride in informing you that the Ministry of Human Resource Development granted the Institution of Eminence (IoE) status to our Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) along with IIT Delhi and IISc Bangalore on July 9, 2018. As a result, the institutes will receive government grant of Rs. 1000 crores over next five years to help them to grow rapidly to become world-class institutions. The grant will help them scale as well as improve general and research infrastructure of the institutes.
We are very pleased to inform you that the Convocation of the Class of 2018 will be held on 11th August, 2018 and our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consented to be the Chief Guest of the Function. More than 2500 degrees will be awarded during the Convocation ceremony.
In an endeavour towards maintaining green campus and spreading a message of conserving nature, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) celebrated Van Mahotsav – the annual tree plantation drive on 7th July 2018. About 2000 saplings of 15 varieties were planted by school students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Campus School (both located within IIT Bombay campus) and the students, faculty, and staff of the Institute, this year. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. A.K. Suresh, Deputy Director (AIA), IIT Bombay said “IIT Bombay has entered in its 60 years of successful existence and the campus too has changed from a barren land to a lush green campus. Such initiatives hold importance to all who treasure its greenery” he added.
The generous contributions received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute helps in making an important difference in our endeavour to pursue global excellence. The contributions towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute. We invite you to contribute to the Institute’s betterment to the best of your ability.
