Greetings from IIT Bombay!

IIT Bombay's month of October is going to be filled with a lot of activities. This September saw IIT Bombay acquire a new lease of life, as students engaged in preparations for their mid-semester examinations with utmost dedication and aplomb. Almost every hostel observed Ganesh Chaturthi, renewing the zeal of the campus. The Institute celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th September, where Prof. S. P. Sukhatme Excellence in Teaching Awards and Dr. P. K. Patwardhan Technology Development Award were conferred. Prof. Jayant B. Udgaonkar, Director, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

IIT Bombay will be joining the ranks of various world-renowned institutions in the AI Horizons Network to push the frontiers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research further. IITB and IBM announced the start of this multi-year collaboration earlier this September which will see our world class faculty and top graduate students from the department of computer science and engineering work in unison with IBM’s preeminent researchers. I trust this will grow into a splendid endeavour that would reap rich dividends for business, industry and academia.

On the 19th of the last month, the TechFest committee launched its social initiative, Speak-Stand to Express aiming to spread awareness regarding mental illness among students, and the requisite instruments to overcome the crippling effects of mental illness. Ms. Yami Gautam, spoke at the launch, and launched the website aimed at establish the social connect and reach the venture hopes to achieve.

Industrial Learning Program (ILP) of SARC provides students opportunities to solve real-time industrial problems, giving a practical perspective to classroom learning. By providing a project, not only does the alumni harness the potential of today’s creme-de-la-creme but also, gives back to the Institute that has helped them become who they are today. It is with great joy and pride that I invite you to this year’s edition of Alumination, the Student Alumni Relation Centre’s most remarkable venture which serves as IIT-B's largest platform for bilateral exchange between its alumni and students on a spectrum spanning Career Guidance, Corporate Exposure, Life Learning and Motivational Talks. I look forward to your invaluable participation in huge numbers, as students eagerly await a chance of a lifetime to imbibe and emulate the example of alumni who have made it to very high places. Only with constant perseverance and tenacity, can we make a mark in the world as an Institute of eminence. Generous contributions received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute are key in bolstering our endeavours to pursue global excellence. Contributions towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute.
