“Difficult Roads often lead to Beautiful Destinations.”
Dear Friend,
Warm Greetings from IIT Bombay!
I rejoice in sharing the March edition of the Knowledge Tree. Even as the warm and ebullient rays of the day slowly yet steadily steal the reins from the wry and innocent shine of the night along the resolute march of time, our prestigious Institute continues to prosper and project forward in a resolute manner. The students of our Institute have braved this term’s mid semester examinations and have risen wiser on the other side. Let us glance at some of the highlights of this edition.
It is my heartfelt honor in introducing the new Director of IIT Bombay, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri from the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay. He will assume charge as Director, IIT Bombay on April 15, 2019. Our Institute will surge to new heights under his leadership and guidance.
Please join me in congratulating the Unmesh Mashruwala Innovation Cell (UMIC), IIT Bombay student team for winning the Asia Pacific regionals of Student Design Competition (SDC) organized by American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME). The team was guided by Prof. Abhishek Gupta from the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The Foundation Day of IIT Bombay is joyously celebrated on March 10. I invite you all to join me and the Director, Prof. Devang Khakkar, in congratulating the recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Awards and the Young Alumni Achievers Awards. The function has been organized on March 8, 2019 this year.
The Institute continues to attract outstanding talent as new faculty members. We are pleased to bring a short introduction of Prof. Ritayan Mitra in the article below.
I feel truly proud in learning that the number of students pursuing their Ph.D. at IIT-Bombay has risen by 311% over the past 18 years. The ascent is a consequential reflection of not only the cutting-edge and varied research, the amenities and opportunities offered, but also the renowned faculty of our Institute who serve as mentors and guides to students. This goes on to add yet another feather to our cap.
The generous contributions received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute help in making an important difference in our endeavor to pursue global excellence. The contributions towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute. We invite you to contribute to the Institute’s betterment to the best of your ability.
