Dean's Message

Dear Friend,

Greetings from IIT Bombay!

The month of February saw the campus abuzz with events and activities, including the semester mid-term examinations. The student gymkhana elections had the campus riveted with excitement and suspense. Please join me in congratulating all the contestants and wishing the winners a  successful term ahead. Now let us glance at some of the highlights of this month’s edition.

Asia’s largest entrepreneurship event, E-Summit, was organized by E-Cell, IIT Bombay on February 1 and 2. It had over 26,000+ visitors from India and abroad, with 120+ events and 120+ speakers. The highlight speaker sessions included Mr. Rishad Premji, Sanjiv Chada, Bharat Desai, TV Mohandas Pai, Ashish Chanchlani. It comprised of workshops from all domains ranging from Artificial intelligence to preparing an excellent pitch deck.

SINE(Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship hosted a ‘Dialogue with stakeholders’ on February 15 to celebrate their contribution to the IIT Bombay entrepreneurial community for 15 years and 5 years respectively. Various stakeholders from different avenues of the ecosystem across Academia, Entrepreneurs, Government, Industry and Investors that have played a crucial role in their incredible journey and emergence attended the event. Prominent individuals from each avenue also offered their insights as part of Keynotes, Panel Discussions and Fireside Chats.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has launched a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to implement its start-up policy. It will be called the Society for Mumbai Incubation Lab to Entrepreneurship (SMILE). They have tied up with IITB’s SINE (Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship), which runs a similar start-up cell or incubation centre.

A workshop on Nada Yoga was conducted by the Yogastha club on February 17 to relax and rejuvenate people. This relaxing sound therapy permeates multiple levels of being, working to reset, recharge, and renew oneself. The unique tones produced during the therapy creates the perfect state of deep meditation, intuitive messages and creative thinking.

In addition to this, Doxper, a digital pen and encoded paper-based clinical documentation startup, founded by IIT Bombay alumni, Randeep Singh & Pawan Jain, got featured in the Economic Times. Due to the skewed doctor-patient ratio nowadays, each doctor doesn’t get to spend sufficient time with each patient. In order to solve this, Doxper says that all that the doctors and medicare professionals need to do is to write using the Doxper pen on the encoded papers. The widely common issue of doctors’ illegible handwriting is also taken into account with modules that can pick up accuracy between 80-90%.

The upcoming month is all set to witness the celebration of the 61st Foundation Day of the institute on March 11 at 3.00 pm at the Prof. B. Nag Auditorium, VMCC, IIT Bombay. Prof. Meric Gertler, President, University of Toronto will be the Chief Guest for the occasion. IIT Bombay, the second IIT to be established in the country in 1959, has grown from strength to strength since then and is now counted among the best engineering institutions across the globe.

These MoUs promote the visit and exchange of faculty members, researchers, students and academic materials as a means to promote future institutional cooperation.

The generous contribution received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute helps make an important difference in our endeavour to pursue global excellence. The contribution towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute.
